Modified Response

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

So long time ago, I read this book called ‘Mature Mind’. It says that (according to Sigmond Freud?) human response can be modified. It said that there was once an experiment. There was a dog. The dog was fed with a piece of meat. Whenever the researcher rang a bell, the dog would come and eat the meat. Next time, the researcher only rang a bell, and did not give any meat, the dog would still come. So, the dog came because the bell rang, not because it wanted to eat.

What I experienced is just about the same. It happened some time ago when I watched [V] channel. It showed video of ‘Switchfoot’ singing their song, ‘Stars’. Then, it snapped me. I heard this song on the way to the US. That brought me of the memory of my journey there. I had been listening to the song on the way to the US and back.

So, it became my memory song, sort of. Because the lyric doesn’t say anything about US or how good it is to be there. It’s just when the song plays, then my mind just starts drifting to the trip. So, I decided to download the MP3 song. Instead of successfully finding the MP3, I stumbled into this cool website which acts like a radio in which I can hear that song. Woohoo! Wanna listen to the song? Check this link out, man: http://www.radioblogclub.com/fav/0/226108/0

So, listen to the song. And remember me whenever you listen to the song. Modified response.

The Language “Killing Field”

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

English is spoken almost everywhere nowadays. Some countries make it as their second language. Funny thing is, English, here in my home country, is made available as social class indication. It seems that one who speaks English a truly sophisticated person. Okay, may be that’s the case.

But, what makes it worse is that they speak English to their fellow citizen, despite the fact that English is a foreign language in our country. Now, I know I have discussed this before, but I tend to consider that langauge is being killed here. They don’t care about the structure, the grammar, the tense and everything. They just speak, speak, and speak.

For example, instead of pronouncing www (as in www.majolelo.com), the pronounce it triple double u. Following this sense, they would’ve pronounce ww as double double you, right? Pitty them.

As for numbers, they don’t give a damn as well. I remember some time ago, they pronounce 101 Dalmatians as one owh one Dalmatians? Who were their English teachers? My God. Wanna be exclusive but got excluded, instead.

Why not use national language? I believe that people who know what language their using in certain context is highly appreciated people instead of people who use English at all time while their mother tongue is not English.

Their Life is on the Road

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

Yesterday, I saw a luxurious van with LCD (TV?) screen in it. It’s not the first time I saw car with LCD screen. It’s like tens or hundreds times have I seen this kind of car. Then, I took a moment and thought, why would these people be willing to spend hundreds of dollars on something like that?

Wouldn’t they be exposed to crime target? Even people who drive cars while on their mobile phone can get robbed sometimes. Why?

Then it occured to me. It must be because the demonic traffic jam in our city. People with cars usually spend 2-3 hours on the road just to get to their home, which probably around 20-30km from their office. But, again, why bother buying TV or expensive screen?

It must be because they love the street. Or they have to love the street. It’s where they live. Yeah, that’s it. It must be because they live on the streets.

In traffic jams, where you’ve got nothing better to do other than grumping, switching the radio and so on, you need to have something better. Something good to see. Then came LCD with TV or DVD player. Yaay, we have entertainment on the run.

Other people can honk their horn like crazy, I don’t care. I have my entertainment here. Better yet, I’m already home, baby. Maybe that’s what on their mind.

Geez, I hope when I’m rich I won’t have LCD or TV or DVD player in my expensive car. Rather, I would like to own Ducati, the one Trinity rode in Matrix: Reloaded. When I’m on the road, I need to get to where I’m going fast, not to spend my life on the way.

Conspiracy Theory: How to Destroy a Nation

Tuesday, November 1st, 2005

I have a conspiracy theory. I hope I can still see tomorrow’s sun after I post this blog. This is very interesting, I guess. It involves theory on how to destroy a nation. It’s an ongoing process, really, in my country now.

First, they had this so-called reputable surveyor, AC Nielsen to which TV stations refer their programme rates. The AC Nielsen stated that sinetrons (junk soap opera show) have high rates during prime time. Nobody even bother asking who their respondents are, where they live, how much they spend for monthly expenditure, etc. They just rely on the brand, AC Nielsen. Nobody even bother whether AC Nielsen could be bribed by some party. And so, the freak shows go on.

Then, there’s the nation. Who got nothing to do, but watching TV. It’s understandable. Probably, they don’t have a job to do. But, wait. What are they watching? Sinetrons. And, what’s on the show? People scolding, screaming, slapping, all that not so good stuff. And, all of these are recorded on their poor mind. Whenever you are in hatred, you slap. Whenever you are in anger, you scold. Intriguity seems to mean crime to these people. There’s no such thing as clean debate. All must end in slapping, scolding, accident, or death, or.. this is the most reliable income to TV stations: crying.

So, these people live in the darkness. No spirit to live. When they haven’t got what they want, these people tend to suicide. I’ve seen and read news on how teenagers decide to hang their neck on a rope just because their parents won’t allow them to watch their idol on TV. I’ve seen them hanged because they are ashamed because they can’t afford the school fee. And, the latest, I’ve read one of them killed herself because her parents didn’t want to buy her a cellphone. Poor her. She could’ve brought a light to someone else. But, no.

And then, there’s fuel price hike. As if living with sinetrons is not enough, the smart guy who holds the running of the government needs to increase the fuel price. He thought the subsidition for his people need to be cut and be given to the poor. Nope. Not in the form of job opportunities. But, in the form of bank notes in the amount of, approximately, USD10. For a day? Nope. For a month. What can you buy for USD10 in a month, wise guy?

So, these people end up in a queue, waiting for that USD10. There’s even a grandma who had died in the queue. Poor her. She could’ve done better.

So, all the suicides, all the killings, are good mechanism on how to destroy a nation. In the end, there will be survivors. Either survival by strong will to live, or survival by doing bad things. In the end, it’s a jungle out there. You will kill or be killed. That’s the only option.

Wish me luck.
