The Cartoon of Ourselves

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

I wish I don’t publish this post. But, I know I have to, so I try to write in a very neutral and calm way.

There’s been this rage going on all over the world right now. It’s provoked by some Danish newspaper publishing mockery cartoon on a prophet from some religion. They said that it’s based on freedom of speech.

The believers of the religion hold rally to protest such mockery. In some nations it’s gone too far, five protesters have been reported shot to death. Is this religion the only one that can be mocked on? I don’t know. But it is said that some time ago in 2003, the Danish newspaper rejected cartoons on a symbol of other religion. But, it refused to publish it on the base that it’s no funny and could offend people. Hello?

Mockering religions seem to be a habit to Danish. Quoted from some article on the Net: “It was subtle things, like a Danish comedian’s statement, paraphrased by The New York Times, “that he had no problem urinating on the Bible but that he would not dare do the same to the Quran.“. Well, that explains it all.

I guess those believers are just wasting their time over a nation which worships freedom of speech. This doesn’t mean that they can get away with that. Condemnation must be expressed. But just so let them know that mockering on this religion is wrong. In the end, God the Almighty will be the one who decides who’s wrong. And only to Him do we have to lean on everything

Let’s hold hands and live in peace with people different races, different religions, and pay respect and love each other. What a peaceful world this would be. And I’ll play John Lenon’s song Imagine
